Beard and sideburns
What happens in the chair
Four steps, with the minutes each one takes.
- 5 min
Step 1: The shape
The barber looks at how your beard grows and at your face, and tells you what shape suits it. With the comb he marks how high the cheek line goes and where the neck line drops.
- 10–15 min
Step 2: The trim
Clippers with a guard and scissors to even out the length. The sideburns come down or stay long, as you ask.
- 10–15 min
Step 3: The razor line
With lather and the razor, the edge of the sideburns, the cheek and the neck are drawn. This is what leaves the beard clean.
- 5 min
Step 4: Hot towel and finish
A hot towel to close, a little oil and a last pass with the comb.
Questions
Before you sit down
What beard length do I need?
The barber tells you, based on how it grows. With a couple of weeks of growth it can be shaped; with more, it can be trimmed and the sideburns brought down.
Can I ask for just the sideburns?
Yes. Sideburns and line-up can be asked for alone or with a cut, and take 15 to 20 minutes.
What do I bring to the chair?
A photo of how you want the beard and sideburns. If you do not have one, the barber suggests a shape.
